Rory's Up-and-Coming Pwop Podcast

So if you’ve been reading Rory’s Blog you know that he and I are planning to produce a “Rory Podcast”.

After reading some of the comments at the above linked post, I’m convinced this will draw out an entirely new generation of groupies. Many of his loyal readers don’t “get” the idea of a Rory Podcast yet. I think it’s because they only know Rory through his writing, and he’s a damned-good writer. They may think that podcast = “blog in audio form.”  sigh….

We don’t know what it will be called yet, but we both agree very strongly on the production qualities we’d like to hear. We’re not talking about reading a blog. We’re talking about art. Magic. A whole new way to experience Rory. There were comments like “I’m afraid that if you read your writing to me it will kill my imagination” as if we were producing a movie or a shlocky TV series.

“Art!”, I say. “Magic!”, says I. This is what we’re after! Being well schooled in the creative use of music supporting the spoken word by Ira Glass in his pioneering radio show, This American Life, we are intending to make something you want to listen to again and again. Something that you want to play for your friends. In a word, Magic.

Here is but a sample of things to come… enjoy.

Mondays is down but not out!

Mondays has been off the air for a few weeks now. We've been really busy with life/work/teched etc. and Mondays takes a back seat to real life. That's just the way it is.

That said, we're looking forward to the next time we can get together and record a Mondays show, which should be soon (but not today).

Don't fret if we miss a few weeks. We're still here, just very busy, and we refuse to record a sucky show.

Thanks for your patience and tireless fandom!

WinFX is now .NET 3.0

Check out Soma’s blog post: http://blogs.msdn.com/somasegar/archive/2006/06/09/624300.aspx

Here’s a summary of what Microsoft has announced:

  • This is the continuation of a wildly successful developer brand, one with extraordinary recognition and positive connotation among developers worldwide.
  • Over 35 million downloads of the .NET Framework 2.0 suggest high and positive demand and recognition for the .NET Framework among developers and, to some extent, end users.
  • WinFX itself has seen extraordinary early interest with nearly 320,000 downloads of WinFX since the December CTP and over 700 customers have signed the WinFX Go-live licenses.
  • Because both WinFX and the .NET Framework have enjoyed substantial success we’ve decided to reduce confusion in the market and coalesce our developer brand around a single entity.
  • This is purely a marketing decision, absolutely no technical elements of what was referred to as “WinFX” and what is now the .NET Framework 3.0 have been altered as a result of this branding change.
  • The technology formerly codenamed “InfoCard” will now be named Windows CardSpace.
  • All WinFX components will ship as part of the .NET Framework 3.0 including Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), and Windows CardSpace (WCS)
  • There are no changes to Windows Vista as a result of this branding change and the .NET Framework 3.0 will ship with Windows Vista, as has been the plan of record for several months.
  • Existing community and other resources anchored around the .NET Framework brand suggest strong brand and customer affinity and rather than forcing partners to align to a new brand identity, this simply reinforces both our and their work over the last several years

Blue Pizza #2 - Adrenaline Rush

 Blue Pizza

For whitewater kayaker Rush Sturges, “it's all about big waves, big drops, hip hop and honeys”. Hear about Rush’s epic adventures sticking a front flip off Maruia Falls in New Zealand, running Hypoxia on Uganda’s White Nile, and stumbling across miles of class five rapids in Madagascar. Rush is all about bringing freestyle kayaking to the backcountry, but spins some off-water tales too - finding celebrity status in Japan, sampling the hip hop talents showcased in his first album, Adrenaline Rush, and recalling a very, very wild night out in Skookem Chuck, British Columbia.
